CONNIE'S STORY
Connie started working with me in August of 2021—just before her 70th birthday.
And that detail matters.
Because for most people, that stage of life comes with quiet doubts:
“Am I too old to start something new?”
“Is it safe for my body?”
“What if I get hurt?”
“What if I’m the exception who can’t improve?”
Connie didn’t say those fears out loud at first but they were there.
Years of conditioning had taught her that aging meant slowing down, scaling back, and being careful.
She found me through a free exercise clinic at the San Diego Convention Center stairs. She showed up curious but cautious. Hopeful but guarded.
Our first conversations weren’t about chasing extreme goals. They were about what she wanted for herself moving forward:
To feel strong.
Capable.
Confident in her body again.
What Connie didn’t realize at the time was that she wasn’t just capable of improving, she was capable of becoming stronger than she had ever been in her youth.
And that’s exactly what happened.
Over the past three and a half years, Connie didn’t just “work out.”
She committed.
She trusted the process.
She showed up consistently.
She allowed her limits to be challenged—safely, intelligently, and progressively.
When she decided she wanted to do a Spartan Race?
We trained for it.
When she signed up for the Senior Games?
We shifted the plan to meet those demands.
She didn’t let age define what she could do, she let preparation do that.
And then life threw her a curveball.
Connie suffered a significant injury to her left knee. And with that came a familiar fear:
“What if this is it?”
“What if my progress stops here?”
“What if I lose everything I’ve built?”
But here’s the thing about Connie-she doesn’t quit when things get hard.
We adapted.
We restructured her training.
We protected her knee while maintaining strength and confidence for an eventual surgery.
Instead of spiraling into fear, she leaned into trust.
That’s the mindset shift that changed everything.
Today, Connie is not just fit for her age—she’s fit, period.
She is strong.
She is resilient.
She is living proof that your best years don’t have to be behind you.
Her journey isn’t inspiring because of the races she’s done or the strength she’s built, it’s inspiring because she chose to believe that her body was still worth investing in.
Connie is one of those rare clients who reminds you why this work matters.
Not because she’s fearless but because she feels the fear and moves forward anyway.
And watching her do that has been one of the greatest honors of my coaching career.
